The Light Tree is a striking six‑metre stainless‑steel sculpture created by local artist Steve Geliot. You’ll find it at the Jubilee entrance to Horsham Park, right by the subway that leads into the town centre, a spot where thousands of people pass each week. Installed in 2012 and funded through the National Lottery via Arts Council England, it was designed as a welcoming landmark for everyone arriving on foot.
The stainless steel ‘bark’ of the tree contains 24,000 perforations in the metal, catching the light and creating a shimmering, almost magical interior. The sculpture was also originally illuminated with fibre‑optic lighting to glow after dark. Although that lighting hasn’t been in regular use in recent years, the Light Tree still puts on a show reflecting sunshine, cloud, or moonlight in a way that changes every time you walk past.
The Light Tree has become one of the park’s most familiar sights. Families heading to the playground, dog walkers on their daily loop, and visitors arriving for events often pause to take a photo or simply enjoy the way it transforms with the weather and time of day.
