St Leonard’s Forest Dragon is a large bronze sculpture by Horsham-based artist Hannah Stewart, created as a millennium project for Horsham Park.
Commissioned by Horsham in Bloom, the dragon was installed at the heart of a newly planted hedge maze to mark the town’s entry into the 21st century, with work completed in May 2001.
The sculpture draws on local folklore: for generations, residents have told tales of a dragon dwelling in nearby St Leonard’s Forest, and the maze and its centrepiece were intended as a lasting tribute to that legend. The sculpture has become a well-loved, tactile landmark within the Park.
Its presence in the maze continues to embody the spirit of the millennium project: a playful, enduring feature that invites exploration, storytelling, and repeated visits within Horsham Park.
